What would you want more from Audi R8? Audi R8 by itself is an awesome car with 420 HP and V8 FSI Engine. Recently, Audi announced that it would be coming up with the race car version of its supercar Audi R8 and named it as Audi R8 GT3. The Audi R8 GT3 will be available in the market beginning autumn 2009. The Audi R8 GT3 is the GT3 version of Audi R8 and features a 6-speed sequential gear box and has a 500 horses power. For the first time, Audi Sport will offer a racing sports car specifically developed for customer use in the form of the powerful 500 hp plus GT3 version of the Audi R8 which will be available from autumn 2009. The logistics and factory space required for the AUDI AG customer programme will be created over the next few months in Ingolstadt, Neckarsulm and Györ.

“The R8 is the first production Audi bearing the name and genes of a successful racing sportscar and is therefore an excellent base from which to build up our first big customer sport programme,” explains Head of Audi Motorsport Dr Wolfgang Ullrich. “Ever since the R8 was unveiled we’ve been inundated with enquiries about a race version. With the Audi R8 we will offer customers a racing sportscar equipped with high-calibre technology and the typical Audi qualities, but which is nevertheless easy to handle.”

The Audi R8 conforms to the production-based GT3 regulations allowing the car to be fielded in numerous national and international race series.

Because the GT3 regulations prohibit the use of four-wheel drive the Audi R8 comes with the typical GT rear-wheel drive. The power is transmitted via a newly developed six-speed sequential sports gearbox. The suspension uses almost exclusively components from the production line. A comprehensive list of safety equipment guarantees the highest-level of passive safety. A modified front end and a large rear-wing generate the required downforce for the race track.

The Audi R8, which bears the project name “R16” within Audi Sport, was developed under the direction of Audi Sport. Mid August, the first prototype successfully completed a roll-out in the hands of Audi factory driver Frank Biela.

The first test races in various European racing series are scheduled for the 2009 season. Delivery to the customers is planned from the autumn of this coming year.

The customer cars are manufactured together by Audi Sport and the quattro GmbH, which is also responsible for production of the Audi R8 street version, and Audi Hungaria Motor Kft. (Györ).

Ferrari 430 Scuderia Edizione 747

747 Bi-Compressor Horsepower, 738 Nm, 0 - 300 km/h in 22.9 Seconds, a Top Speed of 351 km/h and a Spectacular Color Combination

It takes its name from its rated power output of 747 horsepower: To mark the farewell of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia, NOVITEC ROSSO presents the Edizione 747. The world’s leading tuner of the super cars from Maranello turns the lightweight model into one of the most powerful super sports cars of our time. And with its matte yellow and grey paintjob it is also one of the most spectacular-looking cars of our time. At the heart of this special model lies the new NOVITEC ROSSO 747 Bi-Compressor engine that boosts power output of the V8 that normally produces 510 hp / 375 kW by 237 hp / 174 kW. Driving performance improves accordingly: With a sprint time for 0 - 100 km/h of less than 3.4 seconds, 9.4 seconds to 200 km/h and just 22.9 seconds to 300 km/h the NOVITEC ROSSO model is the most powerful and quickest Scuderia in the world. Just as impressive is the top speed of 351 km/h.

If you don’t go forward, you go backwards. The NOVITEC ROSSO specialists have developed a new evolutionary stage of the NOVITEC ROSSO Bi-Compressor version of the four-valve eight-cylinder engine to commemorate the end of the production run of the Ferrari 430 model series.

The Edizione 747 specification is the ultimate high-end version and is limited exclusively to the Berlinetta model of the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The layout of the engine conversion corresponds to all NOVITEC ROSSO Bi-Compressor conversions for the mid-engine sports car. Each cylinder bank is fitted with an intercooler and a cogged-belt-driven high-performance supercharger with a maximum boost pressure increased for this version to 0.53 bar. The intercooling system features its own dedicated water circuit. The radiator of the system is located behind a special centrally placed air duct in the front apron.

For an optimized supply of cooling air to the engine bay the specialists have developed a special underbody with integrated air deflector. The precompressed air is routed to the combustion chambers using a custom-tailored heat-insulated intake manifold with larger cross sections. Eight high-flow injectors ensure adequate fuel supply for the compressor conversion.
The NOVITEC ROSSO engine management system perfectly synchs all high-performance components and also increases redline speed by 200 rpm.

To guarantee perfect durability even under high ambient temperatures the conversion also includes more effective radiators for water and oil.

The result of this labor is a unique symbiosis of superior power and excellent running smoothness. With a rated power output of 747 hp / 549 kW at 8,500 rpm the NOVITEC ROSSO Edizione 747 Bi-Compressor engine surpasses its naturally aspirated brethren by 237 hp / 174 kW. The increase in torque from standard 470 Nm to 738 Nm at 6,300 rpm represents an enormous plus in low-speed power.

Driving performance is in an automotive class of its own: A sprint time of less than 3.4 seconds for 0 - 100 km/h is just as unique as the sprint time of 9.4 seconds to 200 km/h. After 22.9 seconds the NOVITEC ROSSO Edizione 747 already reaches the 300-km/h mark. Upon customer request the two-seater can be equipped with longer gear ratios for a top speed of 351 km/h.

In addition the NOVITEC ROSSO Edizione 747 is also the perfect eye catcher: The two-tone special matte yellow and grey paintjob emphasizes the sporty shape of the body and lends the Scuderia pedigreed racing looks. To complement these looks NOVITEC ROSSO installs black taillights, side markers and reflectors.
The racing theme dominates also the engine’s appearance: All carbon-fiber engine components come with a matte finish.

This color scheme continues on the NOVITEC ROSSO tire/wheel combination custom-tailored for the Scuderia. The diameter of the wheels surpasses the production wheels by one inch. The three-piece 20-inch NF3 double-spoke wheels in sizes 8.5Jx20 in front and 12Jx20 on the rear axle are fitted with Michelin Pilot Cup sport tires in sizes 245/30 ZR 20 in front and 315/25 ZR 20 in back.

Another measure to achieve even more agile and direct handling is the installation of NOVITEC ROSSO sport springs, which lower the ride height of the Ferrari by some 30 millimeters.

To lend the Scuderia better suitability for everyday use despite the lowering NOVITEC ROSSO offers an innovative hydraulic lift system for the front axle. At the push of a button in the cockpit the front is raised by 40 millimeters. It allows drivers to safely navigate parking ramps, low curbs and speed bumps. After safely passing over the obstacle, another push of the button reverts the suspension to its original position. If the button is not pushed the front end reverts to its original position automatically once the car reaches a speed of 80 km/h.

NOVITEC ROSSO also adds sporty and exclusive highlights to the interior of the Edizione 747. The Supersport steering wheel features a combination of leather and carbon-fiber and offers perfect grip. Its flattened bottom also makes entering and exiting the vehicle easier. To complement the steering wheel NOVITEC ROSSO offers carbon-fiber shift paddles. They are longer than their production counterparts and make manual shifting of the F1-SuperFast2 transmission even easier.

In addition, upon customer request NOVITEC ROSSO equips the coupe with a two-tone interior perfectly matched to the exterior colors.

The four-door, four-seat Karma fuses the traditional and timeless styling of veteran auto designer and Fisker Automotive CEO Henrik Fisker, with Quantum Technologies' clean Q-DRIVE® plug-in hybrid powertrain to become the world's first luxury plug-in hybrid car.

LUXURY AND STYLE
Karma's exterior design features the continual flow of sculpture and dramatic proportion that is signature Fisker style. A low, wide stance and raised front fenders offer the driver a unique view of the car's design. Modest changes from the original Karma prototype include an enhanced upper grill and an enlarged lower intake for improved airflow. A new aerodynamic diffuser under the rear bumper helps cool the electric drivetrain. Instantly recognizable, the Karma also benefits from having the world's largest continuously formed glass solar panel roof on a car – an industry first and a standard feature on all Karma sedans.

A desirable car of any kind requires an inviting cockpit. Fisker's interior design team focused on sustainable design held accountable to the environment. Inspiration from nature's timeless beauty and the quality of classic design composition provided immense inspiration. Karma's Sustainable and Accountable Design is reflected in the use of reusable materials enhanced with modern technology. For example, wood trim is sourced from non-living trees: ‘Fallen Trees' that have succumbed to age; ‘Rescued Trees' burned in forest fires; and ‘Sunken Trees' lying in American lake bottoms.

Karma's instrumentation and controls focus on ease of use. Embedded in the layered EcoGlass™ center console is a 10.2-inch touch sensitive screen controlling HVAC, audio and other vehicle systems. LCD gauges behind the steerint wheel provide display critical information like battery charge and vehicle speed.

Karma buyers will choose from three trim levels: EcoBase™, EcoSport™ and EcoChic™. Leather is replaced by 100% Bamboo Viscose, a soft hand textile, while EcoGlass™™ trim frames authentic fossilized leaves. KARMA PRODUCTION & DELIVERY
To meet production goals, Fisker turned to Valmet Automotive in Finland to build the Karma. Delivery of the more than 1,000 pre-ordered Karmas will begin this year. To commemorate initial production, the first 99 examples will be trimmed to match both interior and exterior specifications of the Karma prototype originally showcased at the 2008 NAIAS. Each will feature a personalized plaque with a designated car number and signature from Henrik Fisker

Also at the heart of defining the future is Fisker's retail network. A selective process to support initial deliveries is underway and interest from established dealers is high. Customers can expect a high level of service from retail partners that share their environmental and energy values.

Gtbycitroen Supercar Concept

Citroen announced today that, the GTbyCITROEN from their Paris Motorshow from last October will race at this year's hill climb at Goodwood. The GTbyCITROEN will tackle the 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill at this year’s Festival of Speed between the 3rd and the 5th July.

Previously, the GTbyCITROEN ran some practice laps at the Nurburgring and Le Mans 24 hour endurance races.

The GTbyCITROEN was developed by Citroen in collaboration with Polyphony, the creators of the Gran Turismo5 video game.

GTbyCITROËN TO TACKLE GOODWOOD HILL

The striking GTbyCitroën supercar concept will make its UK debut climbing the famous 1.16-mile Goodwood Hill at this year's Festival of Speed (3-5 July).

Getting in some practice for the Festival of Speed, GTbyCITROËN has been busy completing laps of honour at both the Nürburgring and Le Mans 24 hour endurance races. The 2008 Louis Vuitton Classic Concept Award winner took to the Le Mans circuit this weekend with 150 cars for the famous parade lap.

The car first hit the headlines at the Paris Motorshow last October where the unique partnership between Citroën and Polyphony, designer of the driving simulation game Gran Turismo5 on the Playstation 3, unveiled the real world replica of the digital vehicle.

Measuring nearly five-metres long (4.96m), and just over a metre high (1.09m), the GTbyCitroën is characterised by a large wraparound windscreen which flows into the roof and on into the rear mobile airfoil. The dynamic supercar feel is further enhanced by wide air intakes, a flat underside, rear air-diffuser, clear-cut horizontal headlamps, gullwing doors and diamond-effect 21 inch aluminium wheels.

The GTbyCitroën will climb the Goodwood Hill as part of the Sunday Times Supercar Run.

BMW M8

The BMW M8 was never actually featured on the BMW line. Instead, it is a rarely featured prototype which the company worked on in order to compete with Ferrari. There was only a single M8 prototype car produced, which had a special version of the S70 engine. This modified engine was very similar to a hollowed M70, though it had multi-valve cylinder heads which gave it its 550bhp. At the time, many car buffs and enthusiasts who were exposed to the prototype believed it to have a McLaren F1 engine, however this is not true, as the idea was rejected by the McLaren’s designer, Gordon Murray. Murray believed that the engine was too long and weighed too much to give the M8 the speed BMW sought. Realizing this, they designed an entirely new engine which eventually resembled the S50B30 BMW M3 engine.

Eventually, the M8 protect was scrapped because BMW believed there would be no market for the car. Ferrari’s foothold on luxury sports cars was all encompassing, with Lamborghini shortly behind. With BMW still competing with Mercedes for the supreme title of best luxury sedan, the M8 was scrapped, as BMW decided they didn’t want to play on two different playing fields.

The only prototype of the car that was ever produced was reported to be not even road safe, and it was eventually locked away in the company’s Giftschrank, or poison storage. However, many people believe the car was destroyed, as it wasn’t safe to drive, and since the car would not go into production, there was no need in making it safe to drive.

BMW M8

Though BMW never produced the M8, it should be noted that the BMS 850CSi was tuned by the same division which worked on the M8 and the car’s VIN number helps to identity this. Instead of being given the BMW AG prefix, the car was given BMW Motorsport. This classification essentially means the 850CSi is a detuned M8, even if the engine similarities are quite different.

The M8 was never driven beyond a few shows in order to gauge reception to the idea, and because reception was lukewarm at best, BMW decided it was best to scrap the entire project. Resources that were to be put toward building the scrapped M8 were eventually put forward in BMW’s other lines, which is likely why the 850CSi received so much work from the M8 team.

The BMW M8 is the only known car from BMW to be produced as a fully working prototype and not be sent into production. With this status, it leaves many car buffs wondering about the capabilities of the failed car, as the company has never officially stated that the prototype was destroyed. If it is still in storage, the car could be worth millions, as BMW enthusiasts around the world would love to have it in their collection of cars. If the car has been destroyed, BMW’s attempt at entering the luxury sports car market to rival Ferrari met a quiet end.

Honda Adds New Type R to Civic Lineup

TOKYO, Japan – March 29, 2007– Honda Motor Co., Ltd. announced the release of the all-new Civic Type R, a pure sports edition of the Civic with further enhanced driving performance. The new Civic Type R will go on sale throughout Japan on Friday, March 30.

This new Civic Type R was developed to make the driver feel at one with the car for the ultimate driving experience in all driving conditions, including on circuits.

The all-new Civic Type R comes equipped with a specially tuned 2.0-liter normally aspirated engine matched to a 6-speed manual transmission. A lighter, more rigid body shell, specially tuned suspension, 18-inch tires and large 17-inch front disc brakes contribute to the Civic Type R’s ability to push the performance envelope. Newly developed aerodynamic devices further enhance high-speed performance while giving the wide and low form a more aggressive look. Front bucket seats, a unique instrument panel and other performance accessories contribute to an easier and more responsive drive.

Type R models are specially tuned to take full advantage of the potential of the base model and provide a racing car-like driving feel. First offered on the NSX in 1992, the Type R range was extended to the Integra in 1995, and the Civic in 1997.
